Hitting the Campaign Trail

The November 4th election is right around the corner. Since there is plenty of work to do within New Jersey, the NJCDL is not focused on changing federal laws. However, this year's election gives NJCDL members a great opportunity to get involved in the political process today. As gun owners, we don't have a lot of political experience or know-how. But the people who are handling the US congressional campaigns have the experience we are looking for.

I ask all NJCDL members to contact the pro-gun candidates closest to them and volunteer to work on the campaign in these final weeks of the 2008 election. When you volunteer, keep your eyes and ears open for the methods that the campaigns are using to succeed. Be sure to ask the campaign coordinators and workers as many questions as you can. Learn as much as you can about campaigning so that you can be a resource for the NJ State campaigns in 2009.

Remember, we won't have a big effect on this election. We are looking to have this election have an effect on us.

Here's what to do:
1) Find a Pro-Gun candidate in your area. The NRA Political Victory Fund endorses 3 candidates this year, and a number of candidates with no voting record scored A rankings on the NRA questionnaire(indicated with an AQ on their list). http://www.nrapvf.org/Elections/State.aspx?y=2008&State=NJ
2) Visit the campaign website and sign up to volunteer.
3) Get out your list of pro-gun friends and bring them along!

Be sure to let us know how it goes.
