Paterson to discuss violence tonight

In the wake of Paterson's 12th murder of 2009, the City Council is having a special meeting tonight to discuss possible solutions to violent crime. It is conceivable that gun owners will be used as an easy scapegoat for politicians at this meeting. Patterson politicians have also been discussing the potential of a city wide curfew as a possible solution. Citizens who are worried about their rights should attend and ask the council how they intend to protect not only our safety, but our rights.

New Jersey has already had success battling violent crime this year in places like Camden with a strategy that specifically targets violent criminals, gangs, and the illicit drug trade. When real solutions like this are shown to work, there is no excuse for more assaults on innocent citizens.

The meeting, to explore solutions to the violence, is at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 155 Market St. Show up if you can.
