Under the direction of Governor Jon Corzine (D) and with little notice to the public to ensure that New Jersey sportsmen and gun owners were not prepared to defend their Second Amendment rights from gun rationing schemes; the New Jersey State Senate today added S1774 "One Gun-A-Month" to tomorrow's voting agenda.
Simply stated, this bill would prohibit an individual from purchasing more than one handgun within a 30-day period. The state already requires an individual to first obtain a permit to purchase – a process which includes an extensive criminal background check and a minimum of 30 days to complete. This bill, as proposed, is just another step that anti-gun legislators are trying to take to erode our Right to Keep and Bear Arms
If passed, this bill gives anti-gun extremists carte blanche to further hinder your right to purchase firearms. Next it could be one rifle or shotgun per 30-day period or even one handgun per six months or year.
Please contact your State Senator TODAY and urge them to oppose this unwarranted and unjustified attack on our Second Amendment freedoms. Contact information for your State Senator can be found by clicking here.
Anti-gun advocates are working hard to have S1774 considered in the New Jersey Senate as early as next week. In December the Senate declined to take their scheduled vote on S1774. It turns out our efforts overcame all the lobbying efforts by anti-gun groups for this bill. And it's time to defeat this bill once again!
Here are a few easy steps to making sure this does not pass the senate:
1) Find out which NJ Legislative District you live in: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/districts/municipalities.asp
2) Once you know your district, Note some of the other districts in your area: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/districts/njmap210.html
3) Get the contact information of the representatives in those districts: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/districts/districtnumbers.asp
4) Write and call the representatives about bill S1774. There are a couple points you will want to convey:
a) Be clear that you oppose S1774, and that you want the representative to oppose it as well.
b) Give a sentence or two explaining your reason for opposition.
c) Make it clear that you will do more than just vote for opponents of S1774 or vote against supporters of S1774, but that you will actively work to get supporters of S1774 out of office in the next elections. And make it clear that you are willing to work outside your district.
d) Thank the representatives for their time and service.
Fellow New Jersey Gun Owners,
On Monday, December 8, New Jersey Senate Law and Public Safety Committee will vote on S1774, legislation that would prohibit lawful gun owners from purchasing more than one handgun per month. This bill heaps on additional regulation to an already bogged down pistol permit process, and violation of the proposed law could result in a year and a half worth of jail time. This is a bill that deserves to be defeated, so please contact members of the Senate Law and Public Safety Committee and your senator today.
While you are on the phone with your representatives, please also thank them for their support of the previously mentioned S809, which passed the Senate in a 35-0 vote.

Fellow New Jersey Gun Owners,

New Jersey gun owners won a small victory on Monday. Unable to garner the support required to pass bill A2116, voting was delayed until December. While this indicates that gun owners are making their voices heard in Trenton, it doesn't mean we are out of the woods yet. Advocates of stricter, nonsensical gun laws are planning to use the month delay to push their agenda.
If you have not received a response from your representatives indicating their opposition to A2116, please contact them again and urge them to take a stand. Be sure to spread the word to all New Jersey gun owners as well.
On Monday, November 17, the New Jersey Assembly is scheduled to vote on A2116, legislation banning most firearms over .50 caliber.

Some people predict dark days ahead for America's gun owners. What they don't realize is that gun owners will not simply roll over and accept more draconian gun laws! New Jersey gun owners are in the midst of the fight against violations of the basic human right to self defense.
Come join the New Jersey Citizens Defense League to learn how to organize, fight back against , and WIN!
Attend the next meeting of the NJCDL on November 20 in Hackensack, NJ. Even if you can’t attend, sign up for the email list anyway! Sign up for the email list by sending an email to alerts@njcdl.org.
What: The next NJCDL meeting
When: Thursday November 20 at 7:30 PM
Where: 339 Main Street, Hackensack, NJ (Parking around back)
Who: YOU! And everyone you know who owns guns and cares about NJ Gun Rights
The November 4th election is right around the corner. Since there is plenty of work to do within New Jersey, the NJCDL is not focused on changing federal laws. However, this year's election gives NJCDL members a great opportunity to get involved in the political process today. As gun owners, we don't have a lot of political experience or know-how. But the people who are handling the US congressional campaigns have the experience we are looking for.
I ask all NJCDL members to contact the pro-gun candidates closest to them and volunteer to work on the campaign in these final weeks of the 2008 election. When you volunteer, keep your eyes and ears open for the methods that the campaigns are using to succeed. Be sure to ask the campaign coordinators and workers as many questions as you can. Learn as much as you can about campaigning so that you can be a resource for the NJ State campaigns in 2009.
Remember, we won't have a big effect on this election. We are looking to have this election have an effect on us.
Here's what to do:
1) Find a Pro-Gun candidate in your area. The NRA Political Victory Fund endorses 3 candidates this year, and a number of candidates with no voting record scored A rankings on the NRA questionnaire(indicated with an AQ on their list). http://www.nrapvf.org/Elections/State.aspx?y=2008&State=NJ
2) Visit the campaign website and sign up to volunteer.
3) Get out your list of pro-gun friends and bring them along!
Be sure to let us know how it goes.
A big thanks to everyone who attended the meeting in Hackensack last night. I saw a lot of energy and heard a lot of interesting questions. The meeting confirmed what I had suspected: New Jersey gun owners have the motivation to change the way New Jersey politicians treat gun owners. We just don't yet have the political experience to get inside the minds of the politicians and figure out how they tick.
The path to a better New Jersey will be a hard one, and the more gun owners we have with us, the easier it will be. All NJCDL members are encouraged to spread the word that gun owners are going to stand up for their rights. Get to know the gun owners in your area. Talk to your shooting buddies, your fellow gun club members, other visitors to your local range or gun shop. Collect the names and contact information of the people you know. Your local groups of personal contacts form the nucleus of the NJCDL effort.
